WORD FOR THE DAY
“Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
(Luke 10:40b-42 ).

We are living in hectic times. According to the bible, in the last days the knowledge of the people will multiply a thousand times. What does that mean to us, the crown of God’s creation? Every day we hear about another gadget or equipment that makes it possible to listen to, again, another message and all this info has to be consumed by our brains hence lots of us are losing the connection with reality. Life has become a roller coaster and there is no time for reflection any more. Radio 316 will be that place of reflection for the listeners. With 100 % international Christian Music and only positive messages we try to be an island of reflection in the ocean of noise and bring you back to the reality that there is a God and he loves us so much that he not only gave His Son for our sins, he will send His Son Jesus Christ back to this planet to clean up the mess we have made out of it. Have a blessed listening!

LOCAL:

* ===================================================================== Foreign Affairs Minister Moses Wetangula yesterday summoned American Ambassador Michael Ranneberger over warning letters issued to 15 Kenyans whom the US claims were undermining the reform agenda. Wetangula has termed the letters as an act of intimidation and has demanded that Ranneberger produces the list of those who received the warning letters in the meeting scheduled for this morning. The Minister wants the ambassador to explain to him why diplomatic protocol was disregarded in issuing the letters. Last week the US Embassy issued letters to various political leaders warning that the US will take action against leaders who are allegedly against reforms in the country.
* ===================================================================== The Ministry of Education was yesterday at pains to explain the whereabouts of books worth Sh1.3 billion purchased under the free education program over the last six years. Education Permanent Secretary Karega Mutahi said that the discrepancy could be attributed to normal wear and tear and the 2008 post election violence when a number of schools were torched. Prof Mutahi strongly denied fraud reports in the procurement of the 5.8 million missing books. The report by the UK's Department for International Development (DFID) has concluded that the books bought under the program it funds cannot be accounted for.

NEWS:

======================================================================= Heavy rains in Kisumu have, not only led to major flooding in the lakeside city but also to a break in transmission for your favourite Radio station, Radio 316. Technicians in Kisumu have informed us that lightning struck transmitters leading to malfunctioning of the same, leading to Kisumu being left off air. The technicians have however been working round the clock to try and avert the situation. In the mean time, you can still stream live on Radio 316.net. ====================================================================== Nearly 50 Christian leaders in the US have called on world leaders to take urgent action to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. In a letter to the US Congress this week the leaders warned that a nuclear-armed Iran would “almost certainly” spark an arms race in the Middle East. Among the prominent leaders to sign the letter was Pat Robertson, president of Christian Broadcasting Network {CBN}, Tough actions proposed include a total arms embargo and a halt to exports of refined petroleum products, including gasoline, from Iran. The economic sanctions would also apply to foreign companies that export, ship, finance or broker refined petroleum products to Iran. Christian leaders noted that though Iran has large oil reserves, it is unable to refine its petroleum products and is vulnerable to such sanctions.

International:

* The US Government has cut links with 15 senior personalities in Kenya for allegedly being stumbling blocks to the countries reform Agenda. US Ambassador Michael Renneberger says they have dispatched letters signed by assistant secretary for African Affairs Johnny Carson. This follows a warning by the US Secretary of state Hillary Clinton when she visited Kenya last month saying her country will act against those who are against reforms in the country.

Business:

* ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The Nairobi Metropolitan Ministry is in gear to split budgetary allocation from the Treasury for the 15 local authorities within its mandate. Making it clear that there was no bad blood between his Ministry and that of the Local Government Ministry; Mr. Njeru Githae said the allocation would end duplication of projects between the Metropolitan and the Local Government Ministries. He highlighted that the local authorities within the metropolitan area were the basis for economic growth in the country. The Minister said his Ministry’s intention and mandate was to upgrade the metropolis area to a world class centre of attraction and keep in line with international standards. * ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Sugar prices are set to go down next month following the re-opening of factories that had closed down for maintenance. This is because they are expected to be more productive with the improvements made to their equipment and operations. But experts say cane farmers who had their harvests long overdue may see profits slump due to long waits during the factory maintenance and upgrade period.

* ======================================= BBC: Renault have been given a two-year suspended ban from Formula 1 for their role in fixing last year's Singapore Grand Prix. The team were called before governing body the FIA to answer charges they had asked driver Nelson Piquet Jr to crash to help team-mate Fernando Alonso win. Former team boss Flavio Briatore has been banned from FIA-sanctioned events for an unlimited period. Ex-engineering director Pat Symonds has also been excluded for five years. Briatore and Symonds parted company with Renault last week at the same time as the French car giant said they would not contest the charges. The FIA agreed not to pursue action against Piquet in return for his role in uncovering the details of the scandal. * ======================================= Craig Bellamy and Gary Neville will not face improper conduct charges from the Football Association over their behaviour in Sunday's Manchester derby. Instead Manchester City striker Bellamy and Manchester United defender Neville have been warned over their behaviour. Bellamy appeared to shove a fan in the face after the supporter went on to the pitch, while Neville ran towards City's fans after United's dramatic 4-3 win. Neville was a non-playing substitute in a match decided by a Michael Owen goal. Three years ago Neville received a £5,000 FA fine and was warned over his future conduct after he celebrated in front of Liverpool's fans after United secured a late winner over their rivals at Old Trafford. BREAKING NEWS:

* Assistant minister Danson Mungatana has announced his resignation from the Kenya Government. In a double blow to the fragile Coalition Government, the Medical Services Assistant minister joins her party chairperson Martha Karua, who resigned on Monday, out of government. Earlier, the Narc Kenya party said Ms Karua’s resignation was a culmination of roadblocks that stood on the road to reforms and expressed full support for her decision. The party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) held a meeting on Tuesday and resolved that members of the party who are in the Cabinet will make individual decisions on whether to stay in government or quit. The party stated that Ms Karua’s resignation should open effective public debate on Agenda Four and government action on various issues among them continued tolerance to corruption, reforms in the judiciary, resettlement of IDPs, land reforms among others. “We are joining in solidarity with the party chair and are asking reform oriented Kenyans to walk with us this reform path regardless of the outcome for there is always a price to pay,” said a statement from the NEC. National Organising Secretary Danson Mungatana read the party’s resolutions. Assistant ministers Robinson Githae and Asman Kamama, who are officials of the party announced that they would stay on and fight for reforms from within. *
